Blog Response #4
Both the ending of Chinese Handcuffs and Stotan! leave the reader with some unanswered questions. Chris Crutcher assumes the reader knows the ending, but he doesn't come out and say it. You take control and write the overview of one more chapter to these books. If there was one last chapter, what would it be about. How would you tie up loose ends, if you were the author?

If I were to write another chapter of Chinese Handcuffs it would be about how Jennifer and Dillon built there relationship back up from what it was when he recorded T.B. doing his dirty work. Mr. Caldwell would finally find out why Dillon has more respect than he thinks, and Dillon and his father would end up speaking more about their family before everything went bad. Dillon, Stacy, and Jen would now be all close by helping raise Ryan. Dillon and Jen would not be a couple.

DeleteIf I was to put one more chapter into the book Chinese handcuffs i would tell the reader what has happened to T.B after court and how many years he would have to serve behind bars. I would also put in the ending what happened to each of the characters that has made it to the end and how they have changed there lives.

DeleteI think if there was one more chapter in Stotan. Walker would finally break up with Devnee and move onto a girl better suited for him. Later in the chapter Jeff would finally pass away and the boys would all rally up together and help one another through it as they have done before in any bad situation in this book. The book would end by sending each of the boys off to the same college where they can take on college life together and be part of the same swim team and win multiple championships.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your final ending. Ours are very similar and through out all of these blogs we have had the same thoughts through out the entire book.

DeleteI think that should be more than one more chapter than just one. he should have one about what Jen and Dillon do later on and another one about what happened to Terrence Martin after he was arrested. he might have got away or something.

DeleteI am adding on to my post. with Jen and Dillon how long dose it take them to get together? they probably date for 10 years or so and then they get mired and have a kid. but then they get devoiced and then she finds a new guy and this new guy is one of TB sons and he rapes her doter and the story starts up again. one big circle.

DeleteIf I had another chapter in Chinese Handcuffs I would talk about the relationship that Jen and Dillon have had after everything along with what T.B. did after he left and what happened leading up to that and his arrest. Along with that Mr. Caldwell would learn that Dillon has respect for not only himself and how he could speak about what he thinks of him. One last thing I would speak about how Dillon's situation after everything that day and what it is compared to everyone else's life including him and his dad.

It would talk about what happened to T.B. and where he went and if he went to jail and for how long. It would also talk about Jens recovery and how she is doing now that T.B. is in jail and where her and her family are now.

DeleteYes!!! I forgot about Jen's Mom's baby. Last we know she planned on getting an abortion but we never heard any further news. That would tie things off!

DeleteIf i were to write one more chapter to Chinese Handcuffs i would write 20 years in the future and where they are at in their lives after the happenings of the story. I would tie up the loose ends by just showing were they are and how they got there.

DeleteThe chapter for the end of Stotan would contain all types of loose ends that were left unfinished. It would start with Walker finally breaking things off with Devenee and focusing on what he really loves like swimming. All the boys will have a college picked out to go swim at and they will all be different schools. Jeff will pass away a couple days before all of the boys leave for college and that will be the final big happening that will occur in the book. The final part will be all the boys saying there last good byes to each other as they head off to college and make relationships that will never be as strong as what theirs has been.

DeleteI like your ending as well Greg I think it is very realistic by having all the boys going to separate colleges that would bring a more well rounded ending to the book.

DeleteIf I was able to write another chapter of Chinese Handcuffs it would be about the trail for T.B. and explain his sentence for jail. Mr. Caldwell would learn that Dillon has not only respect for himself, but has more respect than he thinks. Dillon and Jen would rebuild their relationship up to the dating point and hopefully get married at one point. Dillon, Jen, and Stacy are really close and they will help Stacy raise her son.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think Dillon and Jen would help Stacy with Ryan and they might all live together for a while. Since Stacy and Jen are so close, Stacy will help her to rebuild her relationship with Dillon.

DeleteI think in an additional chapter to the book Dillon and Jen would begin to get closer again. After a long time together, and some therapy, Jen begins to trust Dillon again and they start to have a mostly normal relationship. Jen goes onto college where she has a full athletic scholarship to play basketball. Dillon also goes to college and studies Psychology.

I would talk about how he got arrested his trial and how long his sentence for jail would be. I would also talk about how the rest of Jen's like would go and her new sibling.

DeleteI like to think that the boys would have a great rest of their college career and swimming in college with each other but more than that i like that the story didnt really have a conclusion. The book was about Stotan week and the school year that surrounded it. It had nothing to do with what would happen next weather that be good or bad. I like to think that chris crutcher almost did not want us to think about happens next at all.

DeleteIn another chapter I would like to know what after all happened to Jeff. I personally think, he passed away that why an angel showed up in the pool water during the meet. They never come out, and say we lost! They just say they were really close. Other thing I want to know is about Nortie's future life, what happened to him. Walter was really determined on breaking up with his girlfriend, I think he did, but I'd like to know how things took place.
ReplyDeleteIn the last chapter I would say that" Jeff passed away and that grew the boys closer together. They didn't want to leave each other alone so they made a pack to go to the same college to swim together for Jeff. Walker realizes that he actually love Devnee and doesn't want to lose her so he tells her about the crush he had." They all go to the same college. They still remember the good times they had with Jeff and knows hes in a good place. They stick together so they can be there for each other and Nortie to help him.

DeleteThis is very similar to how I would have ended it. I think its a great way to end the book in memory of jeff.

ReplyDeleteIf Chinese handcuffs had another chapter I think it would include how T.B.'s trial and the outcome of him being in jail at the beginning then I think it would mostly be about the life of Jen, her family, Dillon, His family and the relationship between Jen and Dillon start to grow and if they end up together or not. In there I would put flashes of how T.B. does in jail every now and then.

DeleteIf I were to write another chapter, it would not have too much detail and would just tell the reader how all the characters all ended up. I would start with Jen getting help and finally having a relationship with Dillon. Also more about Jen's family and how they are reacting. I would also include how Stacey ended up and how she is handling Ryan. Maybe even mention what they are all going to do for a living and where they are going to college. Maybe Jen getting a scholarship for basketball too.

DeleteAfter reading stotan I don't think i would want another chapter. Although there are loose ends to the book such as jeff who just got some from of cancer or walker who has a complicated relationship. you never get to see these events and others play out, but i think that is what made the book so enjoyable the reader got to decide how it ended. If there was another chapter it could have gone the hopeful way where jeff goes into remission and lives out the rest of his days and everyone else goes on to college and lives the rest of their lives or the depressing way where jeff dies and as a result the rest of the characters fall upon some hard times they either never recover from or do. Having the ending set in stone. Would greatly impact my opinion of the book in a negative way

I think that with all that they've been through that they will stick together through college and help each other out with all of their problems. Meanwhile I think that walker will break up with Devnee and go after Elaine and give it a shot. The boys are going to go through life and stick together and help each other out for Jeff.
ReplyDeleteI would end Chinese Handcuffs with another scene perhaps in Stacy's house where Jen, Dillon, and Stacy are all together. That way they could talk about whatever, and Crutcher could answer any questions and finish the story.

DeleteI would end the book Chinese handcuffs with another chapter explaining what happened to Stacy and more of what happens with jen and Dillon. overall though I didn't mind the ending of the book.
ReplyDeleteIf I were the author for the last chapter my story would end like... Jen and Dillon would be talking to each other even though there's nothing between them. Then, T.B. escapes from jail and abuses her more. Then Dillon catches them and files a complaint to the Police. The police put T.B. in jail for the rest of his life for the escape and the abusing.
ReplyDeleteI liked the ending to chinese handcuffs, however there is a couple things i would like to know in another chapter. I want to know that happens between Dillon and jen, and Dillon and stacy? Do dillon and jen end up together or do they juat remain friends, or maybe dillon ends up with stacy.
