With the introduction of the new novel, share in your blog what attracted you to this novel. After reading the first few pages, what are your initial thoughts about the book? Slow start? Jumps right in? Share your first impressions.
one of the things that attracted me personally was that it talked about surviving ww2 in the concentration camps alone and losing faith. it is very boring with the first couple of pages because it is introducing charters and creating the setting.
I take a little back about what I said be for I read some more and it got really interesting and sad also. its not really slow but its kind of in the middle.
what has brought me in so far was how the husband has 3 wife's. otherwise the book really hasn't brought me into it that much. its kind of a boring book so far.
I think it doesn't say as much in the beginning. However, I believe that it will lead to something later in the book. That's probably why it's not interesting yet. I also think the three wives and nine children is interesting.
Kite Runner is a story about a twelve year old Afghanistan kid that moved to San Francisco. Its a reflection of his life as they where being raided by the Taliban, but also talks about the friendship he had. So far the book is slow and a reflection of what him and his buddy Hassan would do as kids. I am excited to read this book because its from an Afghanistan's point of view. So far its sweal
It most definitely is swell. I also have a feeling since hassen is the son of there family servant he feels his is in some sort of debt to the main charter making there friendship very one sided.
kite runner was my third choice of books not because it stood out to me for any real reason but after choosing my first and second choices it was just the best of the remaining books. After reading the the beginning of the book I have a feeling I will be pleasantly supersized. It is mostly setting and charter details at this point, but the extremely detailed imagery have made the story very easy to visualize.
what attracted me to this novel was readying a passage from the book and also reading some backround info on the author and it sounded like a book i would be interested in. in the first couple pages of "along way gone" it sorta jumps right into by talking about who is friends are and what he likes to do then the next is a volkswagon coming into town a persons dead family in the back and the driver being shot and puking blood.
I choose the book night because when we read the things that you handed out I thought it was cool. The book is a slow start for me because getting into the first couple pages the wording I can tell is going to be hard to get used to at first.
I completely agree with you that the book starts off slow. I also like your thinking of the handouts being a great way to see a passage of the book before we actually read it.
I am Malala was not my first nor was it my second but reading through the first two chapters of the book is probably why it was my third choice. It starts off slow and takes awhile to get to the point but the more you read of this novel the more you become engaged in it. The wording is sometimes tricky to follow along with but the book displays great detail and allows you to picture what is going on throughout. I was leery at first about reading this but I am excited to see what else this book has to offer as I read more of the story.
What attracted me to the book, A Long Way Gone, was the opportunity to learn about something that ive never encountered before, from a point of view that few people get to see in their lifetime. The book is starting off a bit slow, just setting up the beginning of the plot and conflicts. It seems very interesting
What attracted me to the book I Am Malala was the fact that all the others books were already chosen and sometimes settling is the only option. The start to book is slow and goes over the history of her family and the surrounding areas. I hope it's good.
I agree rusty sometimes you just have to deal with what you get! I as well said it got off to a slow start and didn't think much of how it talked a lot about the history of her country and family. I hope my opinion changes throughout the book
I really don't know what attracted me to "a thousand splendid suns". But while reading the first few pages I kind of got a view of their culture and language. As of now the book is starting off slow but i dont think it was stay this way for long. I cant wait to see how things goes from here.
The thing that attracted me to the book, Night, was that we talked about it a little bit during US history. Also I wanted to learn about someone's actual life in the Concentration Camps, I have only heard about them through US History class, but never from the point of view from somebody that was actually there. I like the start of the book, it goes from them living a normal life, to the family getting put in the ghettos and where I left off was that they were about to get bad news. All and all I think this book will be very good and informative.
what attracted me to Night was that it happened during world war 2, because i have always liked learning about that time period. when i read the first few pages it started out kind of slow for me giving mostly back ground info, but a few pages later it becomes far more interesting and sad too.
The attraction to A Long Way Gone for me was learning about how such people could do something to a 12 year old child. Giving a young kid a weapon and orders they are going to do what they are told, because they fear if they don't then their own life will be taken. It is also something that is still happening in our time which is horrid.
When I first started to read A Thousand Splendid Suns i liked it because the it tells us how she was a unwanted child and that her own regrets having her around this caught my eye and made me realize that no matter where your from there are people out there that have it worse then what we have it.
I disagree, the book starts off with a lot of words that aren't really in the English dictionary if you want to put it that way. Sort of makes you infer on the subject
I was most attracted to "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the biography of the author. He seemed to know about the middle east, since he was born there, and I wanted to learn more about the culture of that region. The excerpt that I read was also surprising to see how the husband treated his wife.
It was pretty neat that all of us liked how the author knew so much about the middle east, and how we all wanted to learn more about it. I was also surprised Cory because their behavior is different from our behavior in the US.
I was most attracted by the book "A Long Way Gone" because it's about a young kid getting forced to go to the war. I thought the book kind of starts off slow talking about the characters, and plot. So far I like this book and cant wait to read more about it.
I am not attracted to the book " I am Mulala" what so ever. It starts very slow. The first three chapters just shares how she grew up, and the beleifs and customs her family and herself have. I hope the book has more action so it is more appealing to me. Not a huge fan of the book.
I wasn't attracted to the start of the book either i thought it was kinda plain and boring. I wish it was more about Malala instead of her country's past. But I am excited to see what the rest of the book is like
so far i am not really attracted to the kite runner its just not what i wanted to read so i refuse to enjoy the book. i hope that its not to miserable all i can do is power thru it
At first I was very attracted to this book because the paragraph that you printed us off to read I thought was very interesting. Now as I get reading I am not attracted to the book Night as much. I don't even know half the names and words. It starts off very slow. I don't understand this book very well so far. I believe that if I get reading this book it will get a lot more interesting.
I was most attracted to "A Long Way Gone" by how it started off it wasn't slow it threw you right into the war and what happens to the people that are involved.
I read a Thousand Splendid Suns and instantly I enjoyed it. It started off with Mariam wondering why her Mother always called her Harami. She enjoyed talking to Jalil not knowing the fault in him for having 3 wives and 9 children. Her mom gets very frustrated when she likes Jalil even after knowing the truth about him.
At first I was attracted to the book "Night" because it talks about a teen boy's family who gets taken out of their home and sent to a concentration camp. After I've read the first few pages I've noticed I'm not very attracted to it. I'm not attracted to this book because it starts off very slow and I don't understand it. I also don't understand half of the words in the book.
I am most attracted to the book " A Long Way Gone" because for what ever reason I'm attracted to war stories. Every time I read a book or watch a movie I'm mostly interested into the war category. I've only read 5 pages so far and I really like the book. It starts off slow in the writing but the story is really fast paced and I really like that part.
I wasn't necessarily attracted to this book right from the start. The book "A Thousand Splendid Suns" seems like it starts off very slow. It doesn't necessarily start at an action spot so it will be interesting for me to get really into it. This book wasn't my first choice either, I believe it was placed third on my list. I chose the book third because the title seemed like there was an underlying message and honestly I am not really into the deep books. It will be interesting to see if my point of view will change on this book.
I didn't get into it as much either but as I read along. I took some notes along with my thoughts about things to get me started. So far it is not helping me as much but I am understanding more than if I didn't take notes/thoughts. I agree it starts out slow and it's probably why I'm not "into" it yet. I'm guessing it will probably get interesting by chapter 10-15.
Even though that "A Thousand Splendid Suns" is not my first choice. It still was one of the three books that attracted me by the reviews and author biographies. I feel this novel had a really slow start in the beginning. I was curious on some words I've never heard of or didn't know the meaning to. I struggled with learning the characteristics of certain characters.
I was also attracted by the reviews of this book and the author's biography caught my attention. All of this confusion at first will make sense later on in the book.
Kite Runner was not my first choice of books but the reason it was one of my top three was because I thought it would be interesting to read about this guys story being from a poor country and coming to America. Now that I'm a few pages into the book I find it interesting how they were best friends where they grew up and they both moved to America. I would like to get more into this friendship and see how i can relate it to my own life as I keep reading
It a attracted me to know that there is places around the world where woman still have a very low value to life. Its impressing to know that a girl almost paid with her life for going to school, and standing for it. As I start reading it a lot of cultural information is learned, and history of where Malala is from. The difference between woman and men jump out immediately. It slowly builts up, and I'm interested to know how Malala's story with education begins.
Im reading the book Along Way Gone and the reason I was so attracted to the book at first is because it talked about the boy being so young and what all he witnessed at such a young age. I think the book just jumps right into everything. Within the first chapter it is already talking about the attacks on different towns and even the boy hometown.
I was pretty interested in "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the reviews and the author biographies. I instantly wondered why Mariam was called Harami by her mom. Mariam's mom was upset because she wants to hangout with Jalil even knowing the cold hard truth. I have a strong feeling that the title of this book has a deeper meaning then us readers think.
I was enticed by "A Thousand Splendid Suns" because of the authors background and the information he has to offer about the middle east's last 40 years. The book has definitely been slow so far but hopefully it will start getting more detailed.
I was attracted to the book night because I always have been interested in stories about the holocaust and when I was reading the reviews it seemed like I would really be interested and reading this book. the beginning of the book it a little slow but I know from the reviews that the work will get more interesting as I go.
The book I'm reading is A Thousand Splendid Suns, and honestly I didn't have much of a preference as to what book I would be reading. I would have really wanted to read Night, but I had already read the book in 7th grade. So far, I am enjoying the book, it's rather interesting and has me wondering who is telling the truth. I do think I probably would have liked any of the books because they all look like great novels.
one of the things that attracted me personally was that it talked about surviving ww2 in the concentration camps alone and losing faith. it is very boring with the first couple of pages because it is introducing charters and creating the setting.

ReplyDeleteour book is slow moving as well but learning about the different culture has been an interesting experience and definitely the best part of the book
DeleteI think it doesn't say as much in the beginning. However, I believe that it will lead to something later in the book. That's probably why it's not interesting yet. I also think the three wives and nine children is interesting.
