I chose to read “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. I chose to read this story because I thought it had an interesting summary. I also liked that it was non-fiction and the type of material Randy is writing about in his novel has real world experiences that I as a reader can connect with. Upon finding this book I was stuck between the decision to either read “Gym Candy” by Carl Deuker or “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote. Both seemed interesting and had a good story line but neither of them took me off the edge of my seat. I was actually recommended this book from a friend of mine that lives in Des Moines. The book starts off with a decision that Randy is faced with after he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and ten tumors in his liver with only a few months to live. This decision is to either give his Last Lecture at a college he works at or spend the rest of his precious time with friends and family. Ultimately Randy chooses to give his lecture to his students, staff and even to his wife and children about him and his life. Right away I was hooked within the book it doesn’t take long to get right to the point about what is going on and what he is going to do. I am excited to read the rest of this story and learn more about him and his life.
ReplyDeleteI have read Gym Candy too and I was impressed with the book so if the author has that good of a backstory it is worth a read I think.
Deletei picked the hunger games because its a book that a lot of people say its a must read book. i like action books more then the past book i have read in this class so i picked a more up tempo kind of book. i mostly picked it because everyone has read it and they all say its a good book, also my sister has read all and i haven't read one of the books yet. it starts in there districts and i only got the the introduction of the book right now so not hooked quiet yet.
ReplyDeleteI have read read that book as well much better than the movie by the way but I also chose my book because i was recommended it instead of doing a lot of research
DeleteI have also read the hunger games, it is hard to put the book down once you start reading it. You should read the rest of them
Deletethe book does start to get interesting you just have to keep reading it
DeleteI've never read the Hunger Games but I would like too because many people say it is very good.
DeleteGood movie, better book in my opinion.
DeleteI have never even seen a movie or read a book of the Hunger Games. I feel I wouldn't understand what's going on.
Deleteit is a good book, I cant believe that not every one has read it yet. I know you will like it.
DeleteI THINK THAT THE HUNGER GAMES IS A VERY GOOD BOOK AND I ENJOYED THE WHOLE SERIES!!!!!
DeleteThe book is a lot different than the movie, but it is a great read otherwise. It goes into a lot of description when it comes to when they are actually in the arena.
Deletei have read the book and seen the movie, i think they are both great, but the movie leaves a lot of details out
DeleteI've seen the movie and normally I like the movies more than the book
DeleteIve read this book its a good one you will like it
DeleteI chose to read "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. I chose to read this book because of some ideologies that I hold as well as my dad recommending it to me. This book is very different from any book I've ever read. It is less of a story or narrative instead it is one side to an argument. So far this book is mostly going over a lot of the misconceptions and terms surrounding religion. I am defiantly enjoying it and I think i will continue to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThat actually sounds really interesting...I would like to know if you would recommend "The God Delusion" when you're done reading it.
DeleteThe book i chose is Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. From what I have heard from my other classmates or even on websites that it should be read at some point in your life. I found my book on the list of books and it is a pretty popular book so that caught my eye and I wanted to find out what the hype was. At the beginning it sort of shows how the main character Louie Zamperini came about to be a runner in the olympics and how he got there with his brother Pete pushing him. It then talks about his work ethic and how much he improved about running so far. Not too far in the book but I am sure it will get really interesting soon.
ReplyDeleteI was going to read that book but then I was persuaded by my brother to read what im reading now, let me know how good it is!
DeleteVery good choice in book Dylan. It is a great read and I think you will really enjoy reading this novel.
DeleteI actually read the book "Unbroken" as a junior and I really enjoyed the book as a whole, I thought that the author displayed great detail in his writing. I actually watched the movie after reading the book and I personally thought the book was better.
Deleteread it last year its better then the movie.
DeleteAmerican Sniper is alike in some ways Chris has done nothing but push himself to be all he can be. Even when he wants to give up he doesn't.
Deleteim reading one flew over the cuckoo's nest by ken kesey. when my brother was in school he had to read this book and he said it was a good read. i went to the library talked to the libraian and said id like to read one flew over the cuckoos nest and he said thats an excelent book, then he handed it to me. I chose this book because it was going to be something different for me. this book is great so far, cant put it down honestly. its kind of funny. the main guy R.P. McMurphy is acting crazy to get into an insane hospital, vs working in a work prison. It starts out telling us about all the patients in the hospital and then they introduce mac. hes a manipulative man that try's to get outta just about anything. im hooked and glad im reading this novel.
ReplyDeletei have read this book before it is a very good read!
DeleteThe librarian helped me too but we couldnt find the book I wanted :( Sounds like a book I would like
DeleteSounds like a good book Austin im excited to hear more about it
Deletei chose to raed the book "into the wild" by Jon Krakauer. i chose to read this book because i have seen the movie before and i enjoyed it.i also always wanted to read this book. my initial thoughts about this book is that it starts off boring but is eventually speeding things up. it starts out with telling you about alex the kid that ran away from atlanta and died in the alaskan wilderness discovered by a group of hunters. im starting to get hooked
ReplyDeleteHopefully it gets more interesting for you! Sounds pretty interesting though.
DeleteThat's crazy that he went that far how old is the kid
DeleteThat does sound very interesting I think I've heard of it but cant quite recall how the story goes
Deletethe day u brought this book to class, and heard what it was about. I wanted to read it. maybe it will be one I have to just read for fun.
DeleteI have never read this book, but i've heard that it is very good, it sound kind of similar to my book
DeleteI saw the movie to it was pretty good.
DeleteI chose to read "The Perks of being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky because I wanted to read it last year but there were too many people in my class reading it. Many people also said it was a good book so I decided to read it. So far I like the book, it's about a high school boy named Charlie that writes letters so his anonymous friend. Charlie feels like an outcast in school. I'm interested to see how his highschool career goes. I want to see if he makes friends.
ReplyDeleteThats good that you finally got to read the book and i hope you like it.
DeleteI was interested in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" last year as well, but never got around to it.
DeleteI've read this book last year and it was very interesting. Overall its a good book.
DeleteI have read this book and watched the movie. It's very interesting and you will love it!!!!!!
DeleteI really enjoyed this book! I am glad that you are able to read it! Some topics may be harsh, but it's good to know about it.
DeleteI am personally a big fan of James Patterson's books. He is my second favorite author, the first being Tite Kubo but hes a manga author. the first book i read of James Patterson was Maximum ride and i really loved that series. James Patterson manages to really capture the readers attention with his fast paced writing and unique style, he manages to real you in the first chapter with a couple of words so when I was given the choice of what book I wanted to read I knew it would be a James Patterson book but I didn't know what one I wanted to read but I remember reading an Alex Cross book and I remember it was good so i decided to read that. A long came a spider is about a detective named Alex Cross solving gruesome murders and keeping his family safe. So far in the book I'm really hooked.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book "The Outsiders" and i'm only about 30 pages into the book and so far I think it is a pretty good book but i can't say i'm fully hooked on it but the parts that there is action in book I like reading those parts. I went through the list of books that Mrs. Broadbent gave us and i didn't really like any of the books so I went over to her book shelf and saw the book "Where The Red Fern Grows" and after asking about three times and getting a no each time she recommend that I read "The Outsiders". And after reading the back and looking up some stuff online I think it is a good book for me.
ReplyDeleteIf I can remember correctly, "The Outsiders" is the book I read in middle school and I understood/remember certain parts of it. I still thought it was a good book at the time. I hope you like it though!
DeleteI chose to read "Stay" by Gayle Forman. I chose to read this book because I watched the movie a long time ago and I enjoyed it. The reason I chose this book was because it was romance themed with a little bit of trauma. It starts off with Mia the main character and her family talking about what they should do since school got cancelled because of a snow day. They end up going to Willow and Henry's place who is a friend of Mia's parents. We also find out that Mia is a Cello player and her parents both are punk rock listeners. Mia's boyfriend Adam is in a band called Shooting Star. While going to Willows and Henry's they get into a car crash as a car drifted into them. Mia's parents are killed instantly and her brother Teddy is injured severely, as of Mia shes also hurt very badly but the story is told with her being a ghost with flashbacks of how her and Adam met. I'm excited to read and see if it was like the movie.
ReplyDeleteI am reading that book too! I also saw the movie and I also enjoyed it a lot!
DeleteI personally liked the book a lot better than the movie. It is a good book if you're into that kind of stuff. I hope you enjoy it.
DeleteThis is such a great book I think you'll like it!
DeleteI chose to read "The Martian" by Andy Weir and it's been an alright book so far. I have chosen this book because I seen the movie during a class last school year. I thought it was interesting so I decided to give the book a chance. I didn't really have a process on finding my book. I just thought of movies that I have seen and enjoyed that are also books. The Martian is one of the latest movies I've seen and had thought it was one of a kind. It mainly starts out by having him stranded on Mars and the book says he is the Lowest ranked member of the crew. I would not consider myself "hooked" quite yet because I just started earlier this week.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the movie left out some things the book said, but all around great movie.
DeleteI have never read this book before but it's sounds very good!
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book called The Road. had this book on my mind for a wile but I just didn't want to read it cause I didn't have time. I thought this would be the perfect time to start it because its for school and I get a grade for it. I really like this book because its about apocalypse of wild firs all around and making ash fall like snow. it is winter time and they are up north making there way down south. along the way they run into some bad guys. I think that they are cembalist. so its got some exciting moments. I am hooked It is hard to not to over read.
ReplyDeleteI thought The Road was a good book and it has an interesting ending.
DeleteThe book I chose was The Maze Runner. I chose it because the movie was pretty good. To find the book I looked at the sheet and found it. I walked into the library and found it and began reading. The book starts with the main character arriving in a place with no memory of his past. I'm hooked.
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie too I wonder what the book will be like.
DeleteI actually watched the movie the maze runner as well and thought it was pretty good. I would like to read the book and compare weather the movie or the book is better.
DeleteI LIKED THE MOVIE TOO. I HOPE THE BOOK IS JUST AS GOOD.
DeleteGOD BLESS
Deletei have watched the movie and loved it i wonder how the book differs from the movie
DeleteI chose to read "Call of the Wild" by Jack London. I chose this book because it is well known as a quality novel, and i'd never read it before. The book starts off slow at first, but quickly picks up, but seems a bit repetitive, the main character, Buck, keeps getting into the same kind of situation over and over.
ReplyDeletei have read the book before and i think it is a good book
DeleteI am reading "Saving Max," and have never even heard of this book before. So far it's very interesting, and has me wandering what is going to happen next.
ReplyDeleteI chose this book because it was in the library and looked like something I would be interested in. It's about a kid named Max who has Asperger's and is becoming very violent. He gets taken to a mental health hospital and ends up being convicted of murder.
This book makes me wander what is going on and why he would kill someone or if he even did it.
That sounds like a interesting book. Is it written from first person point of view? That would give an interesting perspective on a mental health patient.
Deletethat sounds like a good book that gets you very interested in what its like living with a mental illness.
DeleteYes, when a book is interesting it makes you want to know more immediately, which is good because it keeps you reading.
DeleteI chose the book The Slight Edge. I chose it because Mr. Jasper recommended it to me and it seemed really well written when I read the back of it. It doesn't really have a plot, it has more of a main idea. That main idea is to try and gain the slight edge throughout your life. By doing that it is a step by step process. I wish I would have chosen a different book.
ReplyDeleteI am reading "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. I have been interested in this book since a friend recommended it a few years ago and have been wanting to read it, but I forgot about it until I saw it on the sheet that Mrs. Broadbent gave us. The book starts with a group of about 15 boys, ages 5-13, who survived a plane crash on an tropical island. The boys have no adult supervision and need to decide how to survived and get rescued. At first the boys make a few poor decisions and there is tension between some boys.
ReplyDeletesounds like a very interesting novel to read hope you enjoy it
DeleteThis sounds like a very interesting book. I'm curious to find out if the boys make the right decisions and get rescued.

ReplyDeleteI picked my book "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" because I have always heard it was a good book. It wasnt my first choice though. The book I wanted to read wasnt in the library. The story starts out with a family moves to another house, the main character, Bruno, like his old house better then the one he is now living in. He looks out his bedroom window and is amazed at what he sees. He is also very confused. He doesnt know its a concentration camp. I enjoy this book. I think it will be an interesting read throughout the whole book. Not like the book "I am Malala".
ReplyDeleteI have never read the boy in the striped pajamas but I would like to because it sounds very interesting!
DeleteThe movie is good too.
Deleteif you dont cry your a monster
DeleteI have seen the movie i thought it was great and really shows that no matter what you will always do what you think is right.
DeleteThe book I chose is called Running Loose. I chose this book because its a Chris Crutcher book and the first book I read of his is Stotan and since I liked Stotan, I wanted to read more of Chris's works. The book starts off at a steady pace and your left wondering what exactly are they talking about. As of now I'm not exactly hooked into the book yet, but given more time I will be.
ReplyDeleteI chose to read "The art of success" by James Melouney. I chose this book, to learn about the mind, because our minds hold wonders we have yet to seek out. I found this book after hearing videos on Youtube of other business successors stories, and how they achieved greatness. The reason is ultimately that I don't want to be another college graduate with student loan debt. My goal is too achieve financial freedom in life where I can go out and live the life I want to live without having a boss. This is after 20 years in the military when I turn 37. The book starts off telling you that you are the creator of your life, and to choose your own path, but first you must start with the basics. I would not say I'm hooked on it at all it is just inspirational and really gives you the secrets to changing your mind. There are many quotes from successful people from the past to the present. One of my favorite quotes from the book is by Marianne Williamson. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. That it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us".
ReplyDeleteYou should take Psychology to learn more about your mind!!
DeleteI chose to read the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I chose this book because i wanted to read an action and adventure book plus i have watch all the hobbit movies and wanted to see how the book has compares to the movies and how they differ from each other. when i first started to read the Hobbit i constantly saw were the book differed from the movies, but now it is becoming much more action packed and i am not paying so much attention to that any more
ReplyDeleteI choose the book 'And Then There Were None' because I wanted to read something about murder and that's exactly what this book is about. After reading the back of the book and looked it up online it sounded like a really good book that I would like. In the beginning of the book it talked about all of the characters and how they got letters saying they're invited to an Island called "Indian lsland" it was boring at first, but now it's getting into the good parts like how there was this "voice" coming through the walls and said al of their name and we're accused of killing someone.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very interesting book because I also really enjoy murder and mystery. This would be a book that I would want to read.
DeleteThe title sounds like a good book.
DeleteI've read this and its a great book!!!
DeleteI choose the book "Precious" because I wanted to read something about rape and that fits this book very well. Its about a 16 year old girl that is pregnant with her second child from her father. Her mother is very mean to her and hits her and beats her up. This book is very emotional but very interesting and I'm really happy I choose this book. This book got me very hooked within the first page. I really enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThe new book that i chose is called "The Firm" by John Grisham. It's about a lawyer thats offered a high paying great job even before hes done with law school. Something about this firm is a little off and he realizes that all the lawyers are dying he then contacts the FBI and realizes hes in danger
ReplyDeleteI chose to read 'Treasure Island'. The title made it sound interesting to me. After reading some summaries online it seemed like a decent book. With in the first couple chapters it starts out with people dying and stealing things. Now there following a map. Overall the book is OK.
ReplyDeletei read it a long time ago its pretty good and at some points will be hard to put down
Deletei chose to read the lord of the flies and its about being stranded but its with nothing but kids its kinda like the show lost. im really hooked in it i chose to read is because i just heard it was a good book
ReplyDeleteI chose to read "if I stay" because I saw the movie and I really liked it and I also wanted to read the book, because it always turns out that the book and the movie or always a little different. this book starts out slow but then once you get in to it you always want to find out what happens next and what is going to happen at the end.
ReplyDeleteI read this book last year and loved it, good luck
DeleteI picked the book The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen. It's about this girl who loves to run and one day she gets in an accident. Then she looses her leg and her dreams are crushed that she won't be able to run again. Now Jessica is trying to fight back and claim what she has lost. I picked this book because I thought that it would be inspiring and good to read about.
ReplyDeleteI have never read this book but it does sound very enticing and I would like to read it some time also. I hope Jessica is able to run again.
DeleteMy new book is "Catching Fire", by Suzanne Collins. I chose to read this book because I have seen The Hunger Games movies and I read the first Hunger Games book so I am ready to move on to the second book. The second book that I am reading now jumps right into what happens next. Catniss and Peeta are back in district 12 in their royalty homes. They do a video for the capitol to show how well they are doing after their victory. This is basically the intro to the book.
ReplyDeleteThe book I chose is "The book thief", by Markus Zusak. I chose it at the last minute, I looked through the choices, made sure it interested me, and was available for me to borrow. I found this book, and reading the back made me want to read more. So far, I really like this book it keeps me interested enough to keep me reading, and having an urge to know more. Its about the life of a foster girl during world war II, and her problems with stealing books. The beginning of the book the narrator talks about Liesel's journey to her new home, and the death of her brother which is where stealing books begin. I want to keep reading to discover why her mother put them on foster home I want to know where book stealing takes Liesel into.
ReplyDeleteI chose the book 'The Best of Me' by Nicholas Sparks. I chose this book because I've seen parts of the movie and it looks interesting. I've also heard the book is better than the movie with this book. So far the book had me hooked with just the back story of how they separated in high school but have met again years later.
ReplyDeleteThe book i have picked is American Sniper I have picked the book because i have seen the movie and wanted to read the book. I didn't know anything about Chris Kyle the author of the book and the main character until a few years ago. When I stared to read the book he talks about his the time he shot the women with that was going to blow up the convoy he was watching. then it backs up to when he was a kid. I was hooked on this book from the being and i have found it hard to put down the book is in my opinion the best book i have read. That's coming from a person that doesn't read at all. Chris Kyle was like the second coming of Jesus accept with more violence he cared for everyone in this country he didn't care for how many kills he had but for how many lives he had saved.
ReplyDeleteI was very hooked with my book too, its about life during world war II.
