Blog Response #13

This blog is in two parts.  Please be sure to answer both questions to receive full credit.

1.  After you have finished your book, share any lessons or themes that the book has left you with.  When you look back on this book 5 or 10 years from know, what will you remember about it?  Where does this book rank in your list of all time favorites?

2.  In reflection of the class blog, what are you opinions or thoughts about using this tool in class.  Did you find it a waste of time?  Did you enjoy reading what other people thought about their books?  Please share your opinions about the blog, and I expect honest responses.

***When responding to another's blog, feel free to comment on either question 1 or question 2.

  1. 1. In the book "Precious" I have learned that even in hard times you can get by and even if you have one friend to tell things to that is enough to help you get over things. If I look back at this book in 5-10 years from now I would remember how sad Precious was and how she got treated and how bad her life was. This book ranks really good and I would recommend it to anyone.
    2. I really like the class blog I feel like you can get your opinions from people your age and see what your classmates have to say about your book. I didn't think it was a waste of time. It takes 10min to do. I did enjoy reading about other peoples books cause now I may want to read them.

  2. 1. In the book 'And Then There Were None' I have learned that if I ever got a mysterious letter sent to me inviting me to an island and that I didn't know who lived there I wouldn't go! If I looked back to this book 5-10 years from now I would remember how they all died one by one and nobody ended up living at the end. This book was very good so I would recommend people reading it.
    2. I liked doing the blogs because you could read about different books people have read so then maybe you could read it for your next book. I didn't think it was a waste if time because I understood the book better by reading other peoples blogs.

    3. That seems like a good book to read and I would be skeptical to read a letter from a stranger. Plus I would not go to the island if I didn't know anyone.

  4. 1. a lesion I have learned from the road is, believe in your self or else the boy would die when he is on his own. I will remember that its about a boy and his father living in the us with very little people and little food and resources. then at the end they make it to the coast wear the dad dies.
2 I like the blog because it gives us a reason to be on the computer. but I also like seeing what other people are reading about in there books. but what I don't like is if u miss spell a word on it then every one sees that you cant spell. no it wasn't really a waste of time it actually gave me something to do because I always read my book before this class. I did like reading about other peoples books but it was a waste of time reading every blog so I picked 2 of them and replied to them.

    2. The class blogs where a good thing to use i feel that it has helped me think more about the book and get a better understanding about it. Reading what other people have put about there books made me see how other people think about the books they picked.

  7. 1. The huge theme in my book "The Running Dream" is never give up no matter how tough things get. You have to find a way or a motive to keep pushing through and things will get better. It showed me that no matter what tough situation I have been through personally it will eventually get better even though it may of not seem like it for awhile. I will remember this lesson for awhile because it well keep happening over and over throughout life. I really don't have favorites for books, but it was a pretty good book.
    2. At first I thought it was stupid, but after the first one that we did I was like "wow" this is very helpful. It makes us think about what we read and get to express how we feel about the book. It also allowed us to open our eyes and see how other people thought about the book. It was a little bit harder to do it this time around because we are all reading different books, but it was cool how we could all find something similar in our books. I also want to read some books that people talked about because it seemed interesting. I liked the blogs and they helped me out and I think they helped out other people as well.

  8. After I completed my reading of The Last Lecture I found a couple important lessons that have stuck with me even after finishing my novel. The first one is no matter what happens in life you can’t change it, twist it or turn it, it is what it is and you have to play the cards that you have been dealt. The other one is it’s not what you say but it’s how you say it. Sharing your opinion is important but don’t say words in a sentence just so it is said make sure the words in the sentence count and matter. Well 5 – 10 years from now I’ll be excited that I passed high school English but in all seriousness I’ll remember reading the “Last Lecture” as important part of my education not only is the book a good read it sends important messages and makes you think past the book and into your life and how you personally lead it. If I would have to rank this book against all the other ones that I have read I would personally say it goes straight to the top. In reflection to blogging in this class I think it was kind of time consuming but had a good impact it let us students communicate with each other and connect each of the books we were reading.

  9. 1. A theme of "The Lord of the Flies" is that without the rules and regulations of modern society we are no longer civilized and turn back into savages. What I will always remember about this book is the felling of desperation that the author creates near the end of the book when Ralph is trying to escape the Jack's tribe. This book does not rank very high in my all time favorites. I expected a more eventful and complex plot, but only a few major shifts happen in the relationships between the boys on the island.

    2. I have enjoyed reading other people's blogs and I think writing them helps me to look deeper into my book and prepares me for group discussions.

  11. 1. In "Catching Fire" I learned that when life gets tough to not bring yourself down. When a curveball gets thrown at you, you have to keep on trucking along. The last thing I learned was to stand up to your biggest fears and get out of your comfort zone.

    2. The online blogging was a neat experience. Reading other peoples comments really made you think more about your book and why you thought the way you did about certain events that happened throughout the book. It was also cool to hear and learn about everyone else's novel and hearing the adventures that their characters went through.

  12. 1. in the book into the wild a lesson i have learned is to not run away into the Alaskan wilderness and eat poisonous berries. Even though he met a lot of people and made a lot of friends along the way. in about 5 to 10 years if i look back on this book i will remember that it was kinda boring for the first half on the book. it was just very repetitive. this book ranks in the middle

  13. 1. In my book never giving up is a big thing that sticks with me because even though they could get beat up really bad and go through hard times they just keep getting up and keep moving forward. The part that the boys where in the church saving the kids and when dally got shot are pictures in my mind that i won't ever forget. I would have to say that it was one of the book s that I liked the best that I read this trimester.

  17. 1. in the book The Hobbit one of the main lessons of the book was that money is not the most important things in life. We learn that the dwarves would rather starve than share their wealth. But as Thorin was on his deathbed, he realizes the error of his ways too late. His last words were, “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” out of all the books i have read this is on my top ten list. in five to ten years i will remember this book as an fun action pack adventure book that i wold not mind reading again.

    2. i kind of enjoyed using the blog during class. at first i didn't really like using it because it was different from what i have done in the past, but after i figured out what i needed to do for the blog i began to like them. i enjoyed seeing what other people wrote and thought about the books that they were reading.

  18. 1. I read the novel "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". The theme of the book has taught me how there is some people who lived in the Germany that did not agree with Adolf Hitler and the beliefs he impounded into the peoples heads. There were only a few people who didn't agree with the ideas he had. In the novel, Bruno's Grandmother does not approve with Bruno fathers career choice (he worked for Hitler). His Grandmother speaks up and causes a huge argument and Bruno never sees his Grandmother again. I always thought everyone was convinced to believe that the Jews were worthless, but reading about that will stick with me from years to come. I think this book would rank as one of the best books I have read because it is a easy read and is eventful.

    2. I thought these blogs were a waist of time because we were already discussing with our groups once a week. But they did require you to think about your book but so did the discussion groups. Reading other peoples responses was fine but I definitely could have lived without it because it was also just like meeting with your groups and talking with your peers.

  19. i dont think this book gave me a lesson at all to be honest because is a non fiction book. i will remeber the hunger games 5 to 10 years from now because it was really popular around my time and its a popular name and will be around for a while. i dont really have a favorite book but if i did, it would differently be up there in one of the better books. i do like the blogs because i get to see other peoples opions of their books and it helps you connect your book with theirs.

  20. 1. "The God Delusion" Has taught me a lot about religion and all of the different perspectives that are held surrounding it. This book was primary written to open up religion to debate and remove the stigma that you cant disagree with it. This book touches on a lot of the misunderstanding and flaws in beliefs systems that are blindly followed without question or research. This isn't the kind of book that someone reflects back on in 5 or ten years anyone who reads it will encounter the issues presented in it everyday. Forcing you to think about it everyday.
    2. I found the blog tool very useful and could defiantly be very helpful. Although I felt the questions were way to structured and didn't leave much room for mentioning parts in the book you felt where important or key moments. But with a little refinement it will be a great tool.

  22. 1. I read the book "The Perks of Being A Wallflower". The theme has taught me that not all people are going to fit in with the popular people but there will always be at least one person that is similar to you. At the beginning of the novel Charlie was an outcast and didn't have any friends and then as the book went on he made some friends. In 5-10 years I will remember that Charlie finally had the chance to spend time with the girl he liked but he was too scared so he backed out. This book was good but it wasn't one of my favorites.

  23. This book didnt really teach me any lessons i found it really hard to relate to because it was mostly just pointless plot and there wasnt really a bigger picture to the story. I didnt really enjoy reading it and thought it was dragged out a lot in the middle. I thought they couldve just told the entire second half of the story and nothing wouldve really changed. However i thought these blogs were really helpful because it made me think about things and reflect on things in my books that i wouldnt have otherwise thought about and it helped me understand my book.

    1. I don't see how the book didn't teach you anything. There has to be a certain theme in the book sometime. The Martian taught me More about not giving up and keep fighting for survival. Like out in the real world is a great example. In your book, There has to be a theme in it somewhere. If not, then I guess you must have not liked it that much.

  24. "The Book Thief" has taught me that sometimes happiness is not for everyone or forever. Liesel's life started with the death of her loved ones and ended with more death of special people for her. I was glad that Max survived this war. The characters also fought a war within themselves. Many lost the battle, but not the fist fighter or the Book Thief. I also understood death gets you when its your turn. Who's meant to be, will be.
The Class Blog was a good tool to answer questions you might of never thought of. This gave you more ideas to discuss with your group. I did enjoyed to know that other reader had the same thoughts, and to see why they thought differently.

  25. 1. There's nothing very special about this book. I think it just leaves you with the thought in your head to never take people for granted and sometimes people just don't need a second chance at love because its just not meant to work out. In 10 years ill just remember this as a book I read in high school its probably 10 on my top ten favorites books.
    2. I didn't care for this blog, when some people had the same books it was better because you could see what other people in your group wrote and maybe find something out that you completely missed and hear what others thought of the book but I didn't really take much time to read what everyone wrote all the time.

  26. 1. In the book Unbroken I think there is an underlying message that comes with the title. The power of human will to be unbroken. I believe Louie showed such a great amount of that in this book because when Louie is in the POW camp he never gave up. Never showed that his toughness was gone, just never gave hope to the keepers of the camp which is truly incredible. This book is easily in my top 5 books that I've read.
    2. I don't mind the class blog, especially if you share a book with others it gives their opinions on the book to help you understand what is going on. Or even just seeing things from other peoples point of view. Also it's not like its super hard or takes a long time to do either, it's a simple tool.

  27. The Art of Success has has left me curious about the world and motivated to see what it holds for me. If I were to look back in 10 years I wouldn't even know what to think because who knows where I will be at that time. Will I be off fighting a war or sitting at home with the family? I don't like to look at the future at this point, because it is impossible to see. This book made me think a lot and it is probably in my top 20 of the books I have read. Blogging about our books is nice, because sometimes we get to let out how we truly feel about them. I read some others blogs, but normally only if I knew the book they were reading. It is a better way of talking about our books rather than writing a journal.

  28. 1.My book was "Saving Max," and the story was about trying to figure out who murdered someone a little boy, and Max is the character that was accused of being the murderer. My book doesn't really have any life long lessons, the book was just a mystery.

If I could take anything away from this novel, it would be to never give up and keep trying. Even though all of the evidence in the beginning pointed towards Max being the murderer, in the end he was proved to be innocent.

2.I'm not quite sure how I feel about the blog. I was in a way similar to the journals we had to do, but it was also different. The journals provided something for us to go off of in our discussions, while the blogs allowed us to answer questions that might not come up in our group.

  29. 1)In The Martian, I will always remember how Mark Watney never gave up and his will to live was incredible! The theme to me is Never give up because if you give up... You will not be successful otherwise. I think it is up there somewhere but I can't even remember what novels I read throughout my time in school.

    2) The blog was a great tool I believe! The only issue I saw was when the technology was acting up for some people. I liked seeing the responses from other peers. Helping others understand things and seeing what they thought was a perfect idea!

  31. 1. I didn't learn much from this book and it wasn't one of my favorite books but the one thing I did learn was that sometimes bad things happen in life but you cant always run away from it, sometimes you just need to stay even if it hurts because you lost so much.
